Scientists have recruited AI to craft semi-coherent piano melodies and accompanying lyrics and to create snippets of pithy (not to mention human-like) prose.
The new features came out the same day as a study that found many open-source projects lack a clear way to report security problems

Anagram for the Day

Water Puzzle

Using a three gallon container and a seven gallon container (along with a water source and drain)...

...can you measure exactly 5 gallons?

Solution (Previous Puzzle):

Adrian had been teaching 21 years.
Betty had been teaching 15 years.
Charles had been teaching 7 years.

Adrian and Betty had been teaching for a total of 36 years.

Charles and Betty had been teaching for a total of 22 years.

Charles and Adrian had been teaching for a total of 28 years.

Let Adrian = A, Betty = B and Charles = C, then:

   A + B = 36       [1]
   C + B = 22       [2]
   C + A = 28       [3]

If we use [3] - [2] we have:

   A - B = 6        [4]

If we use [1] + [4] we have:

   2A = 42
    A = 21

By [1] B = 15. By [3] C = 7.

An anagram is a word made by using letters of another word in a different order.
Example: shot à host

Find the anagram for the following:

Ripples
Saltier
Salting

Solution (Previous):
RESCUED : REDUCED, SECURED
RESELLS : SELLERS
RESERVE : REVERSE

The Greeks had a simple and elegant formula for the universe: just earth, fire, wind, and water. Turns out there's more to it than that -- a lot more. Visible matter (and that goes beyond the four Greek elements) comprises only 4% of the universe. CERN scientist James Gillies tells us what accounts for the remaining 96% (dark matter and dark energy) and how we might go about detecting it.
What's your personality type? Alice and Neil discuss where they lie on the introvert/extrovert spectrum. If you are an introvert you're in good company; Barack Obama, JK Rowling and many more eminent and thoughtful people are introverts.
