Tide Puzzle

A ship is docked in the harbour.

The tide rises at a rate of 9 inches per hour.

At the end of six hours, how much of the rope ladder will still remain above water, assuming that 9 feet were above the water when the tide began to rise?

Solution (Previous Puzzle):

The two sons rowed to safety first, one son rowed back.
I rowed to safety and the other son rowed back to the island.

Innovation of the Day
In 1879, Thomas A. Edison privately demonstrated his incandescent light at Menlo Park, New Jersey. He had invented the lamp on 21 Oct 1879 after 13 months of experimentation to discover a suitable material for the filament.
In 1892, the first U.S. patent issued for a pneumatic automobile tire that could readily and easily be detached or mounted to the rim of a wheel. The inventors were Alexander T. Brown and George Stillman of Syracuse, New York (No. 488494).
In 1907, the first U.S. scientist to receive the Nobel Prize was Albert Michelson, a German-born American physicist who received the Nobel Prize for Physics “for his optical precision instruments and the spectroscopic and metrological investigations.”
